Did you know Stilton cheese has held European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status since 1996? When Britain left the EU, Stilton joined the UK Geographical Indication (GI) scheme and now bears the UK protected designation of origin logo. Stilton's PDO status means that it can only be made in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, and producers have to follow traditional recipes that have been around for generations – which is exactly what we do at Cropwell Bishop Creamery.
Equipped with Stilton’s PDO, more than 160 years of family cheese-making experience and a network of local farmers providing fresh milk every day, the final piece of the jigsaw is our skilled cheesemakers. Using the same traditional cheesemaking methods as our ancestors enables us to produce the richest, creamiest, English Stilton around.

We're also very proud to be members of the Stilton Cheesemakers Association (SCMA) which was formed in 1936 to protect the quality and origin of Stilton cheese. In 1966 Stilton was granted legal protection via a certification trade mark, and is still the only British cheese to have received that status.
